karborn
John Karborn is an artist from London who works across sculpture, print and moving image, blending traditional and analogue processes with digital and blockchain-based techniques. He began working with digital tools around 2002, when his early work consisted of simple scans of plants and leaves. His subjects include technology, overpopulation and the bizarre, and he has drawn on influences ranging from Herbert Bayer and Max Ernst to cyberpunk fiction and ancient Greek mythology. Karborn has worked with the artist MOBSTR on anti-gravity sculptures and screenprints, and with the musician John Foxx, with whom he made the sculptural piece Sleep in 2019. He designed Op-Eds from the Future for The New York Times, a project imagining speculative futures for journalism. In 2023 he released The Seeker, made using a technique he calls hypercollage.
