Andrew Strauss

Andrew Strauss is a designer and digital artist based in Canberra, Australia, where he works as a full-time artist making abstract, patterned compositions with self-coded software, generative automation and pen plotters. He spent two decades as an art director, graphic designer and illustrator in Sydney, Melbourne, Los Angeles and Santiago, working with clients including Engineers Australia and the motorcycle company Sol Invictus. For much of that time he kept his fine art practice, rooted in printmaking and ink on paper, separate from his design work, before merging the two into a practice built on creative coding, mathematics and algorithms. Strauss is known for Utopias of the Damned, an ongoing series begun in 2020 that depicts Canberra's brutalist government architecture against native bush and manicured parkland, and for Meditations: Pessimism, made in 2023.
