Chikai
Chikai is a Japanese-American artist and filmmaker who works with generative AI models and workflows to make what he calls cinematic AI. He earned a PhD in Biomedical Engineering and was a co-creator of Google Earth. He is also the founder of MONOLITH Gallery, a digital space for his personal art collection and curatorial projects. His short film Saving Nine, made entirely with generative AI video, opened the inaugural Napa Valley Asian American Film Festival, and he returned to the festival in February 2026 to present at a symposium on cinematic AI. Anomalia, which pairs large-scale metal prints with AI-generated glitch video, was a finalist for the 2025 Still Image Lumen Prize. His work has been exhibited in Norway, London, Rome, Dubai, Miami, and New York, including HOMINIS at Art Miami in 2025.
