ciphrd

ciphrd, also known as Baptiste Crespy, is a generative artist and software engineer working with real-time systems from which life-like behaviors emerge. His work draws on artificial life, microscopy, and video game systems design, and he names the artificial life systems Tierra and Clusters among his sources of inspiration; his interest in biology and microorganisms began with exploring video game algorithms. In November 2021 he founded fxhash, an open generative art platform on Tezos that lets any artist mint without curation. He turned down venture funding in its early days to keep it independent, sustaining it instead with secondary royalties from sales of his own piece RGB Elementary Cellular Automaton. fxhash later raised a $5 million seed round led by 1kx in 2023, launched fx(hash) 2.0 that December, and in 2026 announced funding from Coinbase Ventures to support expansion to Ethereum and Base.
