Daniel Catt
Daniel Catt is a print artist who writes computer code to generate compositions for drawing machines, traditional print, and screen. He treats code as both compositional instrument and studio collaborator, acting as instigator and curator by selecting from its output or feeding it back into the system. He publishes as Rev Dan Catt. Catt first played the BBC Micro game The Sentinel in 1986 and later reimplemented its landscape-generating algorithm in JavaScript, using it to produce Riso prints and drawing-machine plots. Other works include FALLiNGWATER, a series of Riso prints, and The Sea Howls From The West. His work was included in N=12, a group show on Feral File curated by Aaron Penne in 2023. Since 2024 he has pursued a year of arts-based research into synthesised handwriting, AI-assisted journaling, and running an art studio, including Kitty, an AI personal assistant.
