Erik Bulckens

Erik Bulckens is a multidisciplinary artist based in Belgium. After the death of his grandfather, Marcel De Baer, in 2014, Bulckens found De Baer's photographic archive in his grandparents' attic and began curating and promoting it. De Baer had photographed traffic accident scenes for Belgian legal case files between 1961 and 1980. That material became By Accident, shown at FIFTY ONE TOO in Antwerp in 2023 and in a Gallery Fifty One group show at Paris Photo in 2024. The same year it received an Honorable Mention in the Eyeshot Open Call. In December 2024 Bulckens released Casual Marcel De Baer, drawn from his grandfather's non-accident photographs. He also works from his own images in Ski Bum Experience, based on years spent skiing and snowboarding in the Alps.
