Mark Knol

Mark Knol is a Dutch generative artist and a game developer at Media.Monks. He began making generative art around 2008, during the Flash and ActionScript era, after seeing a talk by Erik Natzke at FITC, and has contributed to open-source projects in the Haxe programming language community. He publishes coded algorithmic series on Tezos-based platforms including hic et nunc, fxhash and objkt.com. Knol came to NFTs in March 2021, onboarded by Matt DesLauriers, and within about six months was among the top-selling artists on hicetnunc. He is best known for SMOLSKULL, released on fxhash in November 2021, which he later extended with ASCII-SMOLSKULL and 3D-SMOLSKULL. Other projects include MILL and Bugged Gaze, his first collection on Ethereum, released in December 2023. SMOLSKULL was shown in Celebrating PFPs on Tezos at Suburbs Gallery in Montréal in April 2025.
