Michelle Thompson

Michelle Thompson is a British illustrator and collage artist, born in 1972. She came to collage through the work of Joseph Beuys, Robert Rauschenberg and Robert Motherwell while studying for her Master's, and works from a personal archive of vintage magazines built up over more than 25 years. Thompson has produced editorial illustration for The Guardian, the Financial Times and The New York Times, and in 2021 began minting selected editorial pieces as digital editions. She shows regularly at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and at art fairs in London, New York, Hong Kong and across Europe. In 2026 the Fry Art Gallery presented Papercuts, a solo retrospective spanning three decades of her collage and illustration work.
